I haven't tested this, but if the following is placed at /opensearch.xml on api.call-cc.org:

<OpenSearchDescription>
<ShortName>Chicken API</ShortName>
<LongName>Chicken API Search</LongName>
<Description>Search the Chicken Scheme API</Description>
<InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding>
<Url type="text/html" method="get" template="http://api.call-cc.org/cdoc?q={searchTerms}"/>
</OpenSearchDescription>

And the following put in the <head> element of the page:

<link title="Chicken API Search" type="application/opensearchdescription+xml" rel="search" href="/opensearch.xml">

...then I think it'll appear in (eg) the Firefox search menu as an option to "Add Chicken API Search", whereupon it'll be in the dropdown FOREVER.
